Training PEI - Career Connect

What is the objective of the program?

Training PEI - Career Connect provides an opportunity for individuals who are in receipt of regular Employment Insurance (EI) benefits to attend post secondary studies within Canada for the duration of their claim.

Who can apply?

If you are unemployed, eligible for regular Employment Insurance benefits and have developed a plan to return to full-time post secondary studies to enhance your education or employment skills, you may be eligible for the Training PEI - Career Connect program. Applicants must also meet the following conditions:

  • Be a Prince Edward Island resident;
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • Have a current regular EI claim;
  • Have been out of secondary school for a minimum of 12 months;
  • Have been accepted to an eligible training program;
  • Have the financial resources to pay all training costs including tuition and books.

 How do I apply?

If you are interested in applying to the Training PEI- Career Connect program, please complete the application form and return it to your nearest SkillsPEI office. Application forms can be found at skillspei.com, workpei.ca, or at any SkillsPEI location. Application forms must include proof of full-time enrollment in a training program and a current resume.                                               

 What else do I need to know?

  • Once your application has been assessed you will be contacted by SkillsPEI staff;
  • You must be receiving or have requested regular EI benefits and submit a Training PEI – Career Connect application to SkillsPEI;
  • Approval under Training PEI - Career Connect will not change the amount or duration of the EI benefits you are entitled to;
  • If you qualify for a new EI claim during your training program you must notify SkillsPEI staff immediately;
  • You can apply for Career Connect each year you are enrolled in full time study.
